The Girlfriend Season (Colby Satterthwaite on the bass and the questions)

I want to plug… our newest sing-along/dance party, Things That Fly (Part 1), available for your listening pleasure on iTunes and Amazonmp3.com.

Listen to me if you… Enjoy being physically fit. Not losing weight is pretty improbable; I mean at the very least, you’ll get a nice head-bobbing neck workout. But on a serious note, we take a lot of pride in having a more meaningful message in our songs and lyrical content. Sure, they may be upbeat and “dancy,” but it won’t be because we just tell you to hit the dance floor during the entire album.  Ryan (our lead vocalist) writes the majority of our lyrics, and he’s really a great musical-storyteller.

Music is my life because: It’s the one universal language we have. There’s just something about putting a smile on someone’s face through your music that I just can’t get away from.

The first song I ever wrote…was on a basketball trip with a few friends early in high school.  It was about birds and how we hated them because they could fly and we couldn’t. It really is unfair, if you think about it, though.

My current playlist includes: Too many to name, but here’s a few: Formalities by The Spill Canvas, …And The Battle Begun by Rx Bandits, The Year of The Black Rainbow by Coheed and Cambria, and all the old Something Corporate albums to properly celebrate the reunion.

Before every show I…properly stretch and mingle with fans. Haven’t developed many weird or crazy rituals yet, but I can’t wait ’til I do.

The desktop background on my computer is…the evil monkey from Family Guy. Absolutely.

Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the bug. What’s today been like so far? Love this question. I’ve been more like the windshield wipers. Cleaning up the house, rearranging the living room and fixing up our instrumental tracks for some exciting placements coming up. I’ve been the proper band housewife today.

Do you eat breakfast? If so, what do you have? I don’t usually eat breakfast. If I do, it’s almost never breakfast food.  I probably haven’t eaten cereal before 4PM for a solid year.

What’s the sexiest thing someone could ever say to you? “Hi, I’m Natalie Portman, I absolutely love bass players!”

If you could take credit for any invention, which would it be and why? Either Colby Jack Cheese or the Internet.  The Internet because, well, I get to say that I invented the Internet, which is pretty much a trump card for any argument/debate (”Oh yeah?  Well, I invented the INTERNET!”).  Colby Jack Cheese because I’d love to have the right to rename it to something completely different so nobody will ever ask me if my last name is “Jack” again.

Here’s what’s next from me: We’re planning on extensively touring later this fall, as well as finishing up Part 2 of Things That Fly, with a hopeful early 2011 release. We’re starting up our webisode series (TGFS TV) this week, so keep an eye out for that. We’re having a blast with it and invading your YouTubes. We’ll be getting placement on some popular shows here soon (wish I could tell you the exact ones, but I can’t yet) and so we’re also planning on invading your living rooms.  You can’t avoid us, don’t even try!

Web sites I visit daily: ESPN.com, YouTube, Gmail, PureVolume, Hulu, pretty standard stuff.  VSNDaily.com is another I hit up pretty often for some laughs.

The Girlfriend Season… Monty Are I is a totally under-rated band.

My guilty pleasure is: Justin Bieber. Does he still qualify as “guilty” if he’s everyone’s pleasure? Also, So You Think You Can Dance.

Follow me because: everything is alright…I’ll be the one to tuck you in at night… Wait wait… Honestly, the best reason to follow us is because you like our music.  Seems like the most logical reason to follow us.  If you don’t like our music, check out TGFS TV when the weekly episodes start rolling out.  You may like our humor, and you won’t have to listen to our songs!  Win, win.

I would have to disagree with with “yaknowme” and “boy”, Ive been listening to TGFS for a long time, and personally their music is great, also ive known some of the band members for a while, and honeslty Colby your interview was great, it cracked me up. But than again your whit and humor always does. I cant wait to hear what more you guys have to offer, and I HOPE that youre tour will come close to where i live so i can come watch.

Hahahaha. Wow youknowmee and boy are retarded! I’d highly disagree. This band has great talent and the guys are way nice. I’m glad they’re following you around, boy. Now you’ll have to learn to love em. I’m excited to see what the band is up to next.
