We’re joining forces with Love and Theft to bring YOU, the fans, a fun and unique way to connect with one of our favorite bands in the Our Song for You Contest exclusively here at Planet Verge!
“Any musician can write what they consider to be the greatest song in the world, but if you don’t have fans to share it with and make the song a success then it might as well be some secondary nursery rhyme for all anyone cares.” - songwriter Scott Hall.
A lot of musicians come and go faster than you can blink an eye and losing out on a record label can be a contributing factor; but for the guys of Love and Theft, who have survived through losing two record labels in six months ( Disney’s Carolwood and Lyric Street Records both closing on the band), something special must be going on because they are still gaining popularity against the industry’s odds.
There are two huge factors of the bands continued rising success. The first is their songwriting skills–not only have the guys written and released hit singles with “Runaway” and “Dancing in Circles,” but Stephen Barker Liles recently wrote country singer Martina McBride’s hit “Wrong Baby Wrong.” The second factor in the band’s success is their ever growing and supportive fan base–opening for music sensations such as Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum and Tim McGraw garners attention. “Our fans are really incredible,” said Liles. “They are really good to us.”
That’s why Planet Verge and Love and Theft are teaming up to present the Our Song For You Contest where one lucky fan will win the ultimate prize: A one of a kind song written about them by Love and Theft.
“Brian, Eric and I are so excited about doing Our Song for You!” Liles said. “It’ll be a fun and different way where we can interact with our fans and do something unique that we are very passionate about, which is songwriting. Were looking forward to seeing all the entries. It’s gonna be a blast.”
Our Song For You Entry and Rules:
1.) Each individual wishing the enter the contest must come up with a unique, fun and creative way to help promote Love and Theft and document the process and final outcome.
EXAMPLES: You could decorate your car and drive through your city during rush hour traffic and make a video to post online; you could make fun pins and flyers and have cute little children hand them out to people in the park (not strangers with candy of course) and take pictures of all the new fans you found; you could paint a link to the bands website on your drunk roommates beer belly and send him around campus topless; you could make a rocket-ship and send it to the moon and inform E.T. and his clan on the band; as long as it’s legal, doesn’t cause any harm to anyone, any animal, or anything and you don’t end up in jail then you can do it. The more creative and unique you get, the better your chances are of winning!
Your work in promoting the band can be done in any form you believe you can be different and reach a substantial amount of people. Get innovative!
2.) You can enter as many times as you want.
If you already entered the competition and come up with something you think can really gain attention, enter again. There is no limit on how many times you can enter, if you can think of 100 different ways to get Love and Theft out there and recognized by new people then enter 100 different times. It can only benefit you to enter more than once.
3.) You don’t have to worry about anyone stealing your idea once you do it.
All entries are to be sent to the private email only viewed by members of Planet Verge and Love and Theft.
The email is: oursongforyou@yahoo.com. There are several ways to document and show us your unique way of promoting the band. You can make a video of what you did and tell us how and why you decided to it, you can take pictures and write a short paragraph explaining how you got creative and how successful it ended up being; if you create a site then send us a link to the site, you can get testimonials of fans you turned on to the band, and any other fun way you can think of getting the information to us.
4.) Along with your documented promotion you will also need to send some other information in your email.
In order for the band to be able to write a tune for you, you will need to include the following information as well as a clear updated photograph of yourself.
**name
**hometown
**age
**job/or school
**hobbies
**why/how you’re a Love and Theft fan
**if you’ve ever seen the band live or met them what the experience was like
5.) Winner will be chosen based on unique idea, creativity, thought, effort and final outreach and product
The contest has very little rules which really leave the playing field of your imagination wide open to get as creative as you want and that’s what we’re hoping and looking for.
The contest begins August 1st 2010 and ends September 1st 2010 at midnight. Planet Verge will choose the top three finalists based on the criteria above and then the guys of Love and Theft will choose a winner from there. On September 10th at the York Fair in Pennsylvania we will meet with the band and record them playing the song they wrote for the winner, which will be posted within a week back here on Planet Verge.
1st runner up will receive a personalized signed CD from the band, as well as a T-Shirt
2nd runner up will receive a T-Shirt from the band
Quick Review:
Come up with a unique and completely off the wall way to promote the band Love and Theft, document it and send it to our email along with a photograph of yourself and the information listed above. Enter as many times as you want with new ideas each time between August 1st and September 1st. Keep an eye out after September 10th to see if you were chosen as the winner of the contest and brag to all of your friends that three good looking and talented musicians wrote a song personally about you.
Got it? Any questions can be posted as a comment below and will be answered promptly. If you’re good to go then what are you waiting for? Get busy being creative!!
