We pump fists, not gas.

I live in New Jersey, but I’m about an hour from the beach.  I’m half Italian American and half hybrid of other things.  I’m entirely annoyed at hypocrites from all parts of my state.

Everyone and their mother is bitching about MTV’s The Jersey Shore.  The haters claim that it reinforces Garden State and Italian American stereotypes; that MTV actually shipped in cast members from Staten Island; that they swear they’re not like that!  Gosh!

Dude:  No one cares, and you’re all missing the point.  MTV knows that this series doesn’t represent all of New Jersey nor all of Italian Americans, just like The Boondocks doesn’t represent all African Americans nor Full House all blended, divorced, generic white (okay, and Greek, Uncle Jesse) families.  The show is designed to be tongue in cheek and a parody, despite the cast members’ taking it really seriously.  The fact that this idea flies right over the heads of MTV’s target demographic isn’t that shocking–you’re the same people who sit on the edges of your seats for The Hills, which brings your collective I.Q. into question.

Most of you who find this so offensive are the same crews who hang out at the Jersey shore and make fun of these people in bars.  MTV is doing it on a larger scale, and now you’re mad?

If you hate it so much, how about you just not watch it?  And if it really pisses you off that much, boycott buying anything advertised during the programming.  Whining about it in your Facebook status and Twitter updates only gives it even more buzz than a Jagerbomb binge.

While I don’t find the show offensive, I can get a bigger, better laugh without commercials here.  Try not to cry about it.  Your self tanner might run.
