Cupcake Fest: Review in Rain

Ok, so the rain needs to stop.  Much to my dismay, Mother Nature did not uphold her promise this past weekend–instead she brought a downpour, ruining my chances of enjoying a beautiful day of cupcakes, music, and good people. Well… Partially.

Despite the dreadful June rain, I drove to north Jersey to attend the much anticipated 2009 Cupcake Fest, run by Rutherford’s own Sweet Avenue Bake Shop. As I walked up to the park, I felt like I was back in high school hanging out at someone’s house show. The first band was gearing up to play for the small crowd that had started to gather.  There were free mini cupcakes waiting to be devoured and pets waiting to be adopted. It felt great to be at an event like this, and it was a perfect way to kick off the summer.

I stopped at the Sweet Avenue tent for a free cupcake and entered their raffle, I checked out the “adopt me” stand for the Humane Society, and was ready to get my face rocked off. Some friends came by and just as it looked like things were going well, it started to rain. First it was light and bearable, but soon it turned into a downright rainstorm. My patience had worn thin. I only got to enjoy two of the bands’ sets and spent less than an hour with friends I hadn’t seen in forever. Plus, by the time I made my way over to the bake shop, they had ran out of cupcakes and were closing up! I was not happy to say the least. I had to give up and leave. I left shortly after to return home sans cupcakes. Congratulations Mother Nature, you won.

Though I spent a short time at Cupcake Fest, I did manage to snag a couple of photos for those of you who missed it. My sincerest apologies for this brief review, but Mother Nature is on my bad side–she ruined my “life, liberty, and the pursuit of cupcakes” this Saturday. Fortunately, Cupcake Fest carried on without me and gave a big EFF YOU to the rain. Those Mockingbirds put on an action-packed set, and faithful cupcake fans withstood the weather. Here’s what I was able to document from the 2009 Cupcake Festival:
