Summer Beauty Tips

Being a hair stylist, makeup and nail artist I get asked a lot of beauty questions, especially around summer time! “What can I do to reduce hair frizz? and plenty others come up in my salon very often, so my business partner and myself came up with a list of some short and simple tips for summer that everyone should be able to benefit from and enjoy:

Tips for Summer!

*Everyone should know this! Wet your hair with normal tap water before and after swimming in chlorinated water. This helps repel the chlorine and helps causes less buildup!

*Do not use Sun In! It is extremely bad for your hair! Some people have had success with it but 90% of people go to the hairdresser to get the problem fixed! Whether it’s coloring over it, or cutting all of the dry damaged hair off! If you want sunkissed looking highlights, ask your hairstylist to do a few foils on the top half of your head…thinly weaved or sliced.

*Fresh Brewed Green Tea helps take the sting out of a sunburn! Brew a pitcher of regular iced green tea and soak some up into a washcloth. Gently dab the tea onto the inflamed areas.

*Peeling tan or burn? Yogurt does the trick! “spoon plan yogurt onto the peeling area, then take a washcloth and in a “shoe shine” motion begin to run washcloth over the area. Shower the yogurt off!

*Do not use an exfoliant on a sunburn or freshly peeling skin. From personal experience…it burns!!!! haha. The skin is too new, or too burnt to handle a texture like this.

*Have a shiny face? Mix three cubes of mango with three cubes of papaya and massage onto face. Let it sit for five minutes. Then, rinse off the mixture with cool water!

*Chaffing? Use a solid deodarant stick and apply to the chaffed or chaffing areas. This helps reduce the friction, which reduces the rash and chaffing process.

*Body breakouts? Blemishes can also occur on other areas rather than just your face! I’ve seen many people with breakouts on their backs, chests, etc. Believe it or not a simple bar of soap can help! Take a break from your perfumey, foamy, luxurious body washes and get to the nitty gritty with a good ole bar of soap. Dial Antibacterial is a good one to start with. Dove is also a good choice!

*Apply sunscreen as a primer for your makeup! It reduces te chance of your face getting burned, which in the long run reduces chance of wrinkles! You should do this year round but increase the SPF in the summer!

*Less is more! Try a more natural look for summer. Lots of browns, golds, and other neutral shadows. Also pale pinks, peaches, and beiges for the cheeks and Nude lip colors! Don’t forget some bronzer!

*Stay hydrated! Drink plenty of H2O! Your body will love you for it!

That’s all for now!

I heart being pale, but it’s so hard to get makeup to stay on in the summer, even with the best primer. So I’ve started to use light foundation, limited powder (I just read to only apply in the t-zone, interesting) and bronzer. I think Iike bronzer now. Nothing crazy, just warms up the face!

    Good tips.

I agree about bronzer, some girls go crazy, putting it alll over their faces, and picking the wrong color, but if you do it right it is tasty and you get this excellent healthy, sun-kissed glow. Go Joelle.

O goodness yes!! powder is most easily the way to go this summer. If possible get a translucent powder that way u can’t go overboard if u have to keep putting it on. PLUS if you get a bronzer that leaves some streaks as you sweat or anything a translucent powder is peeeerrrfect to put on top of it because it’ll dry it out a bit and give you a healthy glow!
